Hello, Fireflies!
Before I get started, you should know that I am an idiot. In the picture above, the Soniclear is facing the wrong way in the charger. Just thought I should get that out of the way. If you buy this machine, TURN IT AROUND in the charger.
Luckily, it arrived fully charged, and a charge can last 30-40 uses, so I wasn't kept from using it. And, use it I did. It's like nothing else I've tried!
Not only am I a little bit special when it comes to technology, my skin is also special. I have oily, blemished skin that is also over 40. So, I need my cleansers to be very gentle to my old mug, but still get the pores clean, but without stripping my skin of the essential oils needed to keep me looking as young as possible. I think the Soniclear fits the bill, plus it goes farther - the brush heads are not only soft, they are also anti-microbial, so they don't spread bacteria around my face, creating more pimples.
The Soniclear comes with two brush heads - one for the face, and one for the body. Each one has 3 speeds. The Soniclear automatically knows which speeds to use based on which head is inserted into the machine.
Whoa.
Also, these brushes don't *spin*. They vibrate. I've used cheapie cleaning systems, and they all are brushes that spin - which on me, just create a lot of foam and brush the surface of my skin really fast. This is a whole 'nother ball of wax. I've never felt anything like it before.
The face brush is rated for all skin types, and is really soft. When the face brush in in the machine, there are three settings only for the face that can be accessed by rotating through them. The Soniclear will beep after 20 seconds, reminding you to move on to another section of your face - forehead, t-zone, and everything else.
When I asked my Aesthetician about these cleansing machines, she recommended that I only use them once a week - but I wonder if she'd change her mind if she tried the Soniclear. It's amazingly gentle. I didn't have any irritation or tightness afterwards - just a really, really clean feeling. Smooth, like a fresh jar of Skippy, as Bruno Mars might say.
It didn't feel like an exfoliation process to me, which I really liked. I've found that the most effective treatments I've had on my skin didn't feel rough. I think many of us have been tricked into thinking that if we didn't feel our skin sloughing off, it wasn't working. You don't want your skin to be stripped of oils - especially if you have naturally oily skin, because it sends the oil-producing glands into overdrive - and what was once a fresh jar of Skippy is now one of those 'natural' peanut butters, with all the oil sitting on top!
At first, I probably was a little too rough with the body brush, but I had been used to loofahs and rough scrubbers, so I pushed harder to make myself feel it more. Which was a little too much. Afterwards, my skin felt tight and in desperate need of moisturizers - but totally my fault. So, if you're getting this sensation from using a scrubber, you may want to back off a bit.
For a retail price of $150, you get the machine, a face brush, a body brush, the charging station, and instructions. Replacement face brushes sell for $25, and so do the body brushes. They also offer their own line of cleansers, and a hard travel case for $25, but honestly, I think I can make do with the hard plastic that covers the brush head in most cases.
Looking on the Soniclear site, there is an extending handle for $25 that I really want. I'd love to be able to use this wonderful machine on my back and feet, and other hard-to-reach places. Oh, and thie Soniclear is waterproof, so you can use this machine *in the shower*. How efficient is that? Face and body all without leaving the warm, steamy comfort of the bath.
Yeah, I'm loving this little machine, and so does my face. So, I did a little nailart homage to my Soniclear. I used Impala Azul Aviador, a blurple jelly, for the base, and then used tape hole-reinforcers to mimic the shape of the grips on the sides of the Soniclear. Then, I filled in the center with The Polish Bar Wistful, a lavender glitter crelly.
If you've only used the cheap, spinning cleansing brushes, don't let that color your view of all cleansing brushes. This is a different animal. If you'd like more information about Michael Todd Organics and the Soniclear, you can find them on their website, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube.
