A Konjac With a Twist #oleavine

Product provided for review.  All opinions are my own.

Hello, Fireflies!

My days of splashing water and a little soap on my face are pretty much behind me.  I want, nay, need a tool to help me get the best cleansing and exfoliation possible to leave those dulling old skin cells behind, but it has to be gentle enough not to mar this aging face of mine.  My no-tugging, cleaning, and exfoliating daily tool?  A konjac sponge.  This one from Oleavine takes konjac to a new level, with an infusion of red clay.

Konjac sponges are made from the plant fibers of the konjac root.  Sustainably grown on a secluded island in South Korea, Oleavine promises their konjac to be free from pollutants, chemicals, and preservatives, and they are vegan and cruelty-free.  There's no dye in them, either - they're naturally colored by the clay.  Their sponges are even biodegradable when you're done with them.

These infusions into Konjac sponges are the newest incarnation, I think.  Oleavine also has black charcoal ones (for detox, oily skin) and a green French clay sponge (for combination skin) as well as this red one and a plain white one.  Personally, I don't know if the red clay is in contact with the skin long enough to have an effect, but the texture of the sponge may be affected by it, and it's certainly soft - the softest I've ever tried, for sure.  Very squishy, I can imagine it would feel great on even the most sensitive skins.  Konjac sponges are naturally pH balanced for our skin, and the infusion of red clay is also supposed to be good for dry or sensitive, more mature skin, as well.  I found it worked fine on my oily skin, too, but I can appreciate a very gentle sponge, especially one that is tear-drop shaped to be useful to get close to my eyes and ears.

To use it, simply soak in water until the sponge is soft.  You can use it to cleanse either by itself or with a gentle cleanser.  Rinse, and let it air dry when you're done.  Simple!  As simple as this nailart I've done, with Avon Golden Wine, topped with Mentality 12k Gold topper.

Sometimes, simple is best! And using a real gold flake is as indulgent as this sponge feels, but at an economical price.

What do you think about these specialty versions of the konjac?  Have you tried one?
