When is a lotion not just a lotion? When it contains a measured amount of vitamins, formulated for easy skin absorption! Vita Sciences Maxasorb has a line of enhanced lotions, and I got to try the B12 serum version.
According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, B12 is one of the B vitamins used in helping our bodies create energy, and is specifically used in creating nerve cells. It's an essential vitamin, meaning that our bodies don't produce it, and we need to get it from outside sources, notably our diet. It's also water-soluble, so our bodies don't store it. Luckily, we have a very low daily requirement of B12, and most healthy people who eat animal protein easily meet their B12 requirements. Vegans and the elderly are at a higher risk of being B12 deficient.
According to the National Institutes of Health, there are studies showing that topical forms of B12 may be helpful in treating eczema and psoriasis. I don't have eczema, but my husband does have frequent breakouts of it, and he applied this to his skin a few times during the breakouts. It didn't have an immediate effect on the itching, but one patch did look a lot better the next time I looked at it.
I used it on my hands, 1-2 times a day. It's a pink, peppermint-scented lotion, which I like. I also like the pump dispenser, which delivers a set amount of the B12 vitamin in each pump. The opaque plastic also helps preserve the integrity of the ingredients. It's a creamy lotion, not too rich, but not too thin, either. It absorbs in a few minutes, and doesn't leave any greasy residue.
This lotion has not been evaluated by the FDA. If you think you have a B12 deficiency, talk to your doctor. But if you have itchy, dry skin, and you're looking for a lotion to help, you might like Maxasorb B-12.
My nailart today is inspired by the packaging. I used Sally Hansen Salon Dark Knight as the base. Then I made circles with Sinful Colors Snow Me White, and dabbed out the inside of the bubble with acetone-soaked cotton. Then, I did the same thing with Ginger + Liz Private Poole. Aren't those ethereal bubbles so cool?
If you'd like more information, or to purchase Vita Sciences Maxasorb, you can find them on their website, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and on Amazon, where Maxasorb B-12 is currently on sale for $19.95.
