Sometimes, I like to paint my fingernails blue. It's probably my favorite nail polish color. Having your nails turn blue because you're not getting enough oxygen, though, that's not sexy or cute. As someone who has asthma, I've often wondered if I'm getting enough oxygen. Someone may have chronic low oxygen levels and not have obvious warning signs until there is damage to the heart. So, I was excited to test out this Areta Fingertip Pulse Oximeter for myself and see if my fingernails could stay blue in all the right ways.
The box comes with a lanyard for the oximeter, a nice, sturdy, little carrying case, instructions, and the Pulse Oximeter with the necessary batteries. Just open the compartment in the back, put in the batteries, and you're good to go.
It's quite small and portable, and doesn't weigh very much at all. I found that the tension it exerts is just enough to keep it secured on my finger, but not so much that it's uncomfortable. It even has little pads to keep your finger from getting pinched or moving around. It will fit both children's and adult's fingers.
The Areta Fingertip Pulse Oximeter displays the percentage of oxygen, heart rate, and a visual waveform of the heartbeat. It has four options for display that rotate by pressing the button under the Areta logo. So, no matter which hand you have it on, or if someone else is reading the display, the display is easily read.
Though not really intended for constant use, the display does update constantly for 10 seconds, and then it powers off automatically. It's not like it takes one reading and displays it. If your oxygen level dips below 91, an alarm goes off. Of course, this machine is not meant to diagnose anything, and should be used under the advice of a physician.
Of course, I did a mani inspired by the case, and the heartbeat. The irony being that nailpolish can actually interfere with the oximeter reading! I used A England Captive Goddess as the base color, and stamped with plate BM-620 and Finger Paints Black Expressionism.
There are few things more beautiful than a healthy heart! If you don't want to wait for that next doctor visit just to check on your pulse and oxygen levels, then the Areta Fingertip Pulse Oximeter might be for you. They offer a lifetime product replacement guarantee, too! This oximeter retails for $79.95 on Amazon, but is currently on sale for $29.95.
