I have a lot of Butter London polishes that I've bought over the years. I love the, well, buttery, formula, the fun colors, and the square packaging. But I hadn't really delved into their new cosmetics line much. So, when Butter London offered to send me a few things to try, I was cautiously optimistic - could they live up to the love I had for the nail polish?
I have to admit, I am attracted to the packaging of the Butter London Iconoclast mascara. The substantial feel of it, the black and silver color scheme, and the slightly flared tube all signal to me that something unique is coming my way.
The wand is a new take on the 'ball' style. The football shape of the long wand is for regular application, and the ball helps get mascara on those hard-to-reach lashes in the corners or bottom lid. I found the mascara itself to be glossy, dark, and a little on the dry side, which I tend to prefer.
Butter London's Wink eyeliner pencils are thick and creamy, which is good news for my old eyes. I can't take pencils that tug, or that can't handle covering a little crepey-ness in my eyelids. Union Jack Black is their glossy jet-black.
In addition to the Iconoclast mascara and Wink eyeliner, I used Tarte Clay of Life and Essence 3D Irresistible Full Moon Flash eyeshadows to create this neutral taupe look.
I love trying new lippies, and the Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Ladybird is an enigma wrapped in a riddle. Is it red? Is it orange? Is it both? When I first tried it on, it read as a neon-bright orange color. On a different day, it picked up some red tones, but is still very orange. On the website, it's listed as a tomato-red.
What it is, though, is super-creamy and pigmented. It feels so nice and moisturizing on the lips, and the staying power is much like a creamy lipstick on me - a few hours if I don't touch anything, but gone the minute I eat or drink, and my husband ended up wearing quite a bit of it - and it's *so* not his color.
The matching nail color, Ladybird, is more of a tomato-red on me. Juicy! Great shine. It looked opaque with 2 coats in Real Life, though the picture shows a little VNL. I thought it would be fun to do a little 'ladybird' nail art to go with it!
I love wearing red, and especially interesting variations on red. This is a really fun color for summer, and I think it'll make for some fun pedis as well.
Are you ready to Shine Out Loud this summer? What is your favorite bright summer color?
