I love nail polish, and that means that nail polish remover is a necessity in my life. If you're a longtime reader, you probably know that I include a nailart look with almost every review, which means that I'm painting my nails almost every day... sometimes more than once a day! So, what's a lover of nail polish to do when her hands are taking a beating? I've tried lots of treatments, and I'm in love with the newest thing I've tried - Nail Butter!
Nail Butter began as a homemade treatment over 30 years ago, created by the founder's dad to help her grandmother with dry hands. She worked as a dental hygenist, and her nails and cuticles were damaged by the constant hand-washing her job entailed. Nail Butter works by enhancing circulation to the nail matrix, and adding moisture, promoting strong, flexible nails and healthy skin.
Nail Butter is all natural and cruelty-free. The lanolin is an animal product, but it is extracted from the wool after the sheep are sheared. Most of the other ingredients are commonly known moisturizers, like grape seed oil, but I hadn't run across Mustard Oil before. According to OrganicFacts.net, it is a fairly pungent oil made from mustard seeds that is used to stimulate circulation, and has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties - which make it pretty useful in a product used primarily on broken skin and nails!
When I received my Nail Butter sample on a hot Florida day, it had separated a little bit, but surprisingly, it held up really well, considering there are no preservatives in it. It has a wonderful lemon scent - it's called lemongrass, but it actually reminds me more of a lemon meringue, because there's a sweetness to it. If you're sensitive to scent, I suggest opening the jar and stirring it, then leaving it open for a day or so to let some of the scent dissipate. I've been using it every day, 2-3 times a day, and it is still scented, but it does fade. It's also available in a Gardenia scent, and they are formulating a non-scented version!
The key to any nail treatment is to USE it, so I keep mine on where I do my nails. Every time I remove polish, I immediately put on some Nail Butter. If I'm on the computer, I put on some Nail Butter. Before I go to bed, I put on some Nail Butter. It's easy for this delicate skin to dry out, so keeping them healthy is not a one-and-done proposition. I think my hands look pretty good with this Nail Butter-inspired mani! I used KBShimmer Let's Not Coral on my accent nails, and Wet 'n Wild Black Creme with stamped and dotted polka-dots with Sinful Colors Snow Me White.
For more information, or to purchase Nail Butter, you can find them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and on their web site, where it is currently on sale for $24.
