Is one kind of clay mask just like another?  I love how my face responds to clay masks in general - the tightening of pores, the deep detoxing, the softness of getting the right oil balance.  There is something special about this Zakia's Moroccan Ghassoul Clay, though, that took my clay mask up a notch!

Ghassoul Clay sounds a little... ghoulish? But it totally brought my skin back to life.  It's a clay powder mined from under the Atlas Mountains.  It's very high in trace minerals, which are good for the skin.

This clay is very finely milled - don't sneeze around it, or *poof* it'll fly everywhere!  it's very soft and smooth, too.

Lately, I've been using a lot of Bentonite clay for DIY masks.  If you like clay, but find that Bentonite is a little heavy, hard to mix, or not gentle enough, you might like Ghassoul clay.  It's the first clay mask I've tried that mixed up with just water - no lumps!  I started with a 1:1 ratio of clay and water (a teaspoon of each) and you can add a little more of either to adjust to the consistency you like.  I only used the clay and water this time, but I do enjoy adding in things to my DIY masks, like aloe vera, green tea or other essential oils, or a little bit of apple cider vinegar.

If you have any flat foundation brushes that you're not using, they make a great face mask applicator.  I don't mind having a face full of mud, but oddly enough, I don't like to get my hands all goopy when I put the mask on!

No makeup, no filter! My skin was amazingly bright and fresh when I washed the mask off.  I don't ever think I've seen such immediate results from a clay mask before.

I only used the powder to make a face mask, but apparently it can be used to make body masks, or add it to shampoo, too. 

A little nail art today, inspired by the subtle brightening of the clay.  I used Beauty For Real Light On Your Toes, a denim blue with a subtle shimmer, and stamped using Ulta Candy Coated, a bronzy-brown.
