I admit it, I'm kinda vain about my hair. It took me such a long time to love it - all I wanted when I was a kid was to be like the women in the hair commercials that had long, straight, flowing hair. Mine was snarled and frizzy, and anything that touched it would stick to it like velcro. Now that I know more about how to care for curly hair, I gravitate towards products that are nourishing and protecting of my hair, like Arvazallia's Fortifying Protein Hair Mask.
I hardly ever use conditioner anymore. I'm a hard-core hair mask convert. I love the richness of masks, and how a good one handles my frizz and my dryness.
Hair is made up of the same things your nails are made of - mostly protein. And, like a damaged nail doesn't heal itself, neither does damaged hair. We can add things to our nails and hair, though, to protect them and moisturize them. Curly hair is fragile by nature, because the hair is thinner where it bends, and will break easily. Moisture and conditioning is so important to keep the hair pliable and bending, rather than breaking under stress.
Argan and Macadamia oil are thicker oils that penetrate deep into the hair shaft to make it softer and more resistant to breakage. Dimethicone forms a protective layer outside the hair to keep humidity out - which keeps the frizzies away, too.
I used this with Arvazallia's Moisturizing Hair Care shampoo, which I reviewed before, along with their conditioner and another hair mask. I like this mask a lot more - it's not as heavy and it doesn't make my hair greasy. It's sulfate- and paraben-free, and safe for color-treated hair, extensions, and wigs. It's very nourishing and rich, but my hair still has great bounce and life.
Lately, I've taken to drying my hair on really big sponge rollers under a hood, and I'm loving how soft and healthy my hair looks. I only wash my hair every 5 - 7 days, so it's important for me to have a good conditioning product that doesn't make my hair greasy.
Arvazallia-packaging-inspired stripey nail art! I used Zoya Pippa as the base, and added stripes of LeChat Orange Blossom and Butter London Ruby Murray. |
