As a pasty-skinned, cave-dwelling Night Owl, I know I'm probably not getting enough Vitamin D from the sun. I drink my Vitamin D-fortified milk, and take a multi-vitamin, but is it enough? I'm going to check with my doctor to get my Vitamin D levels checked, and I've been using Skin Authority VitaD Fortified Topical Elixir to help my skin get more Vitamin D.
Our bodies don't naturally produce Vitamin D, but we do synthesize it in our skin from sunlight. As we get older, however, our skin is less efficient at producing Vitamin D, and there is some evidence to show that sunscreens can block the wavelengths that our body uses to make Vitamin D. According to Dr. Dennis Gross, having sufficient vitamin D in the skin helps minimize acne, boost elasticity, stimulate collagen production, enhance radiance, and lessen lines and the appearance of dark spots.
Skin Authority's VitaD Fortified Topical Elixir is free from parabens, AHAs, dyes, added fragrances, and is also cruelty-free. I'm a little concerned that the second ingredient is alcohol, which is known to be drying to skin, and the third ingredient is Mica, which is a fine ingredient according to Paula's Choice, but is just a cosmetic ingredient that gives shine and sparkle to the skin. It doesn't give my skin any glittery effect, though.
The serum also contains Vitamin D, of course, and Vitamins E and K, as well as Retinol, and skin-soothing ingredients like Aloe, glycerin, and allantoin. The serum is a thin, but not runny, consistency with a light yellow color. It has a light scent that I can't place - It's not sweet or floral...maybe herbal? It's not strong and doesn't last long - and the serum itself is absorbed super-quickly with no residue on the skin. You know I'm a fan of the pump packaging - my favorite for all serums and just about anything else.
For more information, or to purchase, you can find Skin Authority on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and on their website, where the VitaD Elixir retails for $59.
How do you Vitamin D?
