I've been traveling lately. Usually, when I travel, I like lots of pockets and things for all my toiletries - everything all sorted out into different places. But this time, I decided to try something different, and I really liked it!
Organizers are really handy, and I love them. But when it comes to sheer volume, they just can't handle it - all those pockets and bags take up space. Space that could be used to fit in a few more lipsticks. And those pretty bags get messed up when one of my toiletries inevitably spills all over. I think my new ModFamily Stash It is solving my travel problems.
I couldn't fit the whole bag into the picture - it's folded up here. It's about 8 x 6 inches, made of black, woven polyester fabric with a drawstring around the edge. There are two pockets - one zippered - and a few loops in the bottom to hold things like brushes stationary.
Honestly, I didn't think the bag was going to hold that much stuff, so when I grabbed my latest haul to photograph, I thought it would fill the bag. Not even close. Still PLENTY of room. So, on my last trip, I decided I didn't want to pick and choose between some of my new lipsticks and eye shadow sticks, and tossed a whole bunch in there. And then I put another makeup bag in there with a full set of brushes. And my whole face palette from It Cosmetics, and three mascaras, brow pencil, tweezers, my new Murad primer, my new UD Afterglow highlighters.. the lot.
It held it all easily. And when I got to my folks' place, I opened the bag on the countertop and easily found everything I needed to do my makeup every day. Well, I did misplace the cap of my brow pencil, but in all fairness, it's tiny and it's black...and, I did find it again...
I do wish it came with some instructions for tying it up. After pulling the drawstring and adjusting the toggle, I decided to get the excess string out of the way by tying it in a slip knot around the handle. This gave me a bigger handle that was actually centered on the bag, and kept all the extra drawstring out of the way. Of course, I think my way of doing things is the *very best* way of doing things, but it would have been nice to know if the manufacturer had intended another way of doing it.
I was super impressed by this new way of traveling with my makeup. I took way more stuff than I had taken before, and none of it was damaged, nothing spilled (though if it had, the polyester fabric would have cleaned up easily with a cloth, or even in the washing machine!), and I was able to find everything I wanted to use. I think it even took less space than any other organizer I'd used previously!
Stash-It Mustache-it nail art! The base is Lilypad Lacquer Jumping For Joy over Revlon Black Magic. I used Finger Paints Paper Mache and stamping plate BM 402 for the cute 'stashes. |
