Hello, Fireflies!
It's no secret that I love makeup. I have a particular weakness for lipstick.. and eyeshadow palettes. I go cuckoo for a new neutral palette, or bold colors, or great summer colors, or, well, almost anything. Last time I was in Walgreens, I picked up a couple of $3 LA Girl palettes, and I also picked up the Lorac Mega Pro eyeshadow palette, so it runs the gamut.
But if you're someone like me that owns ALL the eyeshadows, sometimes it can be daunting to figure out what to do with them all! And, here's where this amazing book comes in.
I know Kendra Stanton best from her blog, Citizens Of Beauty, but she's had her work grace the pages of magazines and newspapers, on TV, and now she has her first book, 500 Eye Makeup Designs: Inspired and Inventive Looks for Every Mood and Occasion. I was so thrilled when she gifted me a copy. It's got so many different looks in it, from a simple, everyday neutral eye to crazy cartoon and comic book-inspired looks.
I loved this wintery look, and decided to try to do my take on it.
What I like about the book is that Kendra doesn't tell you that you have to get this eyeshadow, or use that brush. She presents the look, and you can re-imagine it any way you'd like.
And, for those of you who think it's easy to take pictures of your makeup and have it look like hers does, lemme show you a few of my attempts...
Yeah, eye-model I am not.
Or, any kind of model. Kendra makes it look easy, though!
After I put this look together, my husband arrived home from work, and immediately noticed my makeup and told me how much he liked it!
And then, he took me shopping. True story.
Here's what I used: The One Direction LE Beauty Collection eyeshadows, a sample of Bare Minerals Bareskin Foundation, my It Cosmetics Radiance Palette, ELF eye primer, OFRA Golden Sparkle creme eyeshadow, It Cosmetics Hello Lashes Extensions mascara, Fresh Sugar Rose' Lip balm, NARS Translucent Crystal Loose Powder, and Temptu Concealer Wheel... and probably my Too Faced Bulletproof Brows, though it's not in the picture.
I was putting together a look for a recent holiday party, and I was inspired by Kendra's peachy-golden neutral eye with the smoky eyeliner.
A little photoshop to make my eye green, and you can't tell the difference, right? HAHAHAHA!
I liked this with a bold berry lip, but it really could go with almost anything. Such a versatile look!
Here's what I used for this holiday look: Cover F/X Mattifying Primer and Eye Shadow primer, Urban Decay Zero eyeliner, Cover F/X powder, Too-Faced Bulletproof Brows in Brunette, Serenity + Scott Pressed Powder Foundation in Fairest, Colour Pop Lippie in Flawless and Eyeshadows in I Heart This, Cricket, and Mooning, NARS Translucent Crystal Loose Powder, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette, and Temptu Concealer Wheel...and I think the Elizabeth Mott It's So Big mascara, which somehow escaped being photographed.
Sure, in a pinch I can put together a quick basic look, but I love the inspiration I found in this book to use colors in new ways and new combinations to really take my eyeshadow collection for a spin! Even if you don't plan on recreating 'My Little Pony' on your eyelids, her book is a kaleidoscope of color and beautiful looks that I think any makeup lover would enjoy.
