I've decided to try ALL the konjacs! Well, ok, not all. But I have a new one today, and a few more down the pipe. I reviewed a white one from Pure Sol here, and a red one from Oleavine Beauty here. Today, a black one from Milagrous Beauty!
If you're not familiar with the Konjac sponge, it's a cleansing sponge made from the root of a fibrous potato that is largely grown high above sea level on an island in Asia. It's a super-exotic potato, which seems ironic to me...
In their 'resting' state, the sponges are like little pumice stones - hard, light, and porous. I don't recommend using them this way. You want to soak the sponge for about a minute, and it will get soft and squishy. You can use them to cleanse and exfoliate your skin either by themselves or with your favorite cleanser. I admit, I love all the bubbles I get when using my sponge. It's like a bubble bath for my face.
The ones I was most familiar with at first were all white, containing nothing but the konjac root itself. Now, there are different varieties, infused with things to give the konjac sponge different properties. This black one contains activated charcoal, which is well known for having amazing absorbent properties, and is used in masks and skin treatments to absorb oil and toxins from the skin.
What I am noticing about the different sponges is the texture and shape does seem to make a difference as to my personal preference for a particular sponge. This sponge has a half-sphere shape, and is a medium density sponge, which I tend to prefer.
When you've finished using the sponge, make sure it can hang up and dry thoroughly. Each sponge is supposed to last 2-3 months, and when it starts to break down, you can compost it.
This nail art is inspired by the grey, porous surface of the Milagrous Beauty Charcoal Konjac Sponge. I used Gloss 'n Sparkle Lead Paint topped with Azature Black (with a real black diamond!) to give it a little shine.
The Milagrous Beauty Charcoal Konjac Sponge is currently sold on Amazon and retails for $10.
Have you tried a Konjac sponge yet? Do you have a favorite color or type of sponge?
