Glitterween, Part II

Hello, Fireflies!

Can you feel Halloween getting closer? I have a fun, spooky mani for tomorrow, but for today - MOAR GLITTER!

This is LynBDesigns Psychedelic Vampire.

Some vampires *are* sparkly, I guess! And, uh, purple.  Name aside, this polish is really pretty, and doesn't have to be relegated just to Halloween.

Pretty & Polished Witchy Woman is a purple jelly with glitter and a purple shimmer.

The bottle is from a scratch and dent sale, but the polish is perfect.  So purple-y!  It needs at least 3 coats, though, especially if you have long nails.

This polish was even more sheer.  365 Days of Color I Smell Children is purple glitter in a really sheer black jelly base.

I'm torn about using undies on this polish, because the jelly is what gives it that cool translucence.  But this is 3-4 thick coats, and I'd never be able to wear that without denting it.

Also, I will note that this polish doesn't really smell like children.  In case you were wondering.

Last, but not least, Dollish Polish Vampires Coven.  Dark black jelly with red/orange/pink glitters.  Looks like glowing embers.  Pretty cool.

My only complaint is that it needs a little more glitter.. and would look great with some of those larger holographic circles, right?  Of course, they weren't a thing when this polish was conceived.

Doing these posts made me realize how I've moved largely away from glitters lately.  It was fun to remind myself how interesting a good glitter can be.  Have fun with your seasonal glitters, and don't forget the peel-off basecoat!

On Wednesdays, the Mean Girls Wear Pink

I've probably mentioned that, as a little girl, I was only allowed to wear pink nail polish.  So, when I got back into polish, I rebelled a little at the idea of wearing pink.  I mean, why wear pink when I could wear BLUE?  or GREEN?  or *whisper* black?

So many rebellious choices, and I chose them all.

And, by the way, I'm over 40, and it STILL drives my mother crazy when I wear crazy colored nail polish.  *evil cackle*

But, anyway, I decided that I liked pink again.  So here are some recent pink finds.

Illamasqua Pink Raindrops.  Oh, how we waited for this to show up on the UK website, paid our shipping costs, and then.. well, I like it, but I'm not sure it lived up to the hype.  It's not a pink version of Raindrops, as touted.  It is a pretty pink with flakies, but it's not a jelly.

Smitten Polish Snowberry Gumdrop.  When I saw another blogger say about this polish that she wished this is what Pink Raindrops looked like, I knew I wanted it!  This is more of a crelly, with fewer, but larger white flakies.  I really like this.

365 Days of Color Make Me Laugh-y Taffy.  This is more jelly than I was expecting.  I would recommend wearing this with undies.  It's a thin formula that I think would take way too many coats to become opaque.  Ain't nobody got time for that.  This one has shredded glitters, too.

Feenix Pasadena Rose.  Pay no attention to the glittered ring finger, we'll get to that in a second.  Are you seeing that blue shimmer?  I hope you can find this in a blog sale, because Feenix closed its doors.

Glitzology Priscilla. Ok, so you couldn't ignore the glitter.  But now I can tell you that it's Glitzology Priscilla.  It has a very sheer base - it might even be clear, but with a slight iridescence.  It looks like it was made to go with Feenix Pasadena Rose.  The blue shimmer plays nice with the pink and purple glitters, and the two sheer polishes together reach opacity without getting chunky.

LynBDesigns Jarvis.  We're all guilty of buying at least one polish just for the name.  I have a friend whose name is NOT Jarvis, nor any derivation or similarity to Jarvis.  Yet, that is one of her nicknames.  She doesn't wear nail polish.  I knew she'd never wear this.. so I wear it for her.

Elixir Lacquers With A K.  And, we end on a hot pink note. This one is not for the shy and retiring.  It's bright and fun and shiny.  I have no idea what the K is, and why it has one.

I've included links in the polish titles to the Indies that are still with us.  If you'd like more information, you can find them all on Facebook.

Do you wear pink?   Do you wear a particular color when you're feeling rebellious?

Something a little different Sunday - My... Indies? What?

Don't worry, there are some normal polishes today, too.

Last year, I went to The Makeup Show in Orlando, and there was a booth that sold nail polishes - that you made yourself.  Well, I've been loving Indie polishes for awhile, so I wanted to see if I could do it, too.  I made three.

The first is a wine/brown with red glitter.  I love the color, but it's too easy for the red glitter to get lost.  And. like all three polishes I made, it's pretty gritty.

The good news?  Look how *fantastic* it looks with Color Club Snow-Flakes on it.  I love flakies.  This was part of their 2012 Holiday line, but I understand it's a dupe for Essie Shine of the Times and the like.

This is a green I made, with gold holo glitter.  Something about green and gold together!  Pretty, but again, gritty.  How do Indie makers get the polish to be smooth?

I decided to layer 365 Days of Color Rock Candy over it.  Very festive, if not my cup of tea.  I got this in a grab bag of polishes.  It's pretty, but I just am not that much into shards of glitter.  Maybe in a jelly sammich.

And, finally, a light blue with dark blue and holo glitter.  Grit-tastic, and a little frostier than I'd thought it would be.

I layered Lilacquer Blueberry Pi over it, but it didn't show up much at all. Whomp-whomp.

So, here's what I learned:
-  Almost every polish can be changed by adding a topcoat glitter.  It's not always changed for good.
- Making polish is super easy.  Making GOOD polish... not so much.

So, hat tip for the Indie makers who take pride in a good product with materials that don't bleed or curl up, that are smooth and pretty.  I'll keep buying them, because I'm not so good at making them.
