On Wednesdays, the Mean Girls Wear Pink

I've probably mentioned that, as a little girl, I was only allowed to wear pink nail polish.  So, when I got back into polish, I rebelled a little at the idea of wearing pink.  I mean, why wear pink when I could wear BLUE?  or GREEN?  or *whisper* black?

So many rebellious choices, and I chose them all.

And, by the way, I'm over 40, and it STILL drives my mother crazy when I wear crazy colored nail polish.  *evil cackle*

But, anyway, I decided that I liked pink again.  So here are some recent pink finds.

Illamasqua Pink Raindrops.  Oh, how we waited for this to show up on the UK website, paid our shipping costs, and then.. well, I like it, but I'm not sure it lived up to the hype.  It's not a pink version of Raindrops, as touted.  It is a pretty pink with flakies, but it's not a jelly.

Smitten Polish Snowberry Gumdrop.  When I saw another blogger say about this polish that she wished this is what Pink Raindrops looked like, I knew I wanted it!  This is more of a crelly, with fewer, but larger white flakies.  I really like this.

365 Days of Color Make Me Laugh-y Taffy.  This is more jelly than I was expecting.  I would recommend wearing this with undies.  It's a thin formula that I think would take way too many coats to become opaque.  Ain't nobody got time for that.  This one has shredded glitters, too.

Feenix Pasadena Rose.  Pay no attention to the glittered ring finger, we'll get to that in a second.  Are you seeing that blue shimmer?  I hope you can find this in a blog sale, because Feenix closed its doors.

Glitzology Priscilla. Ok, so you couldn't ignore the glitter.  But now I can tell you that it's Glitzology Priscilla.  It has a very sheer base - it might even be clear, but with a slight iridescence.  It looks like it was made to go with Feenix Pasadena Rose.  The blue shimmer plays nice with the pink and purple glitters, and the two sheer polishes together reach opacity without getting chunky.

LynBDesigns Jarvis.  We're all guilty of buying at least one polish just for the name.  I have a friend whose name is NOT Jarvis, nor any derivation or similarity to Jarvis.  Yet, that is one of her nicknames.  She doesn't wear nail polish.  I knew she'd never wear this.. so I wear it for her.

Elixir Lacquers With A K.  And, we end on a hot pink note. This one is not for the shy and retiring.  It's bright and fun and shiny.  I have no idea what the K is, and why it has one.

I've included links in the polish titles to the Indies that are still with us.  If you'd like more information, you can find them all on Facebook.

Do you wear pink?   Do you wear a particular color when you're feeling rebellious?

The Fruity Punch of Polish

I have a few colors to show you today that just remind me of fruity cocktails, and that the beach is only a moment away..

Illamasqua Grab.  What to call this color... somewhere between fuchsia and magenta, I guess?  Definitely in the pink family.  Nice, glossy finish.

I added Julep Jordan, a mix of silver glitters, to give it an edge.  Adding some black would look nice, too!

Illamasqua Lament.  This was one of my surprise favorites!  A coral/salmon color that is bright, but not blindingly so, and definitely not neon.

I love coral and gold together, so I thought Glitzology Sock Monkey would pair nicely.  Even with a very thin layer, it almost completely covered Lament!  Gives it almost a patina look, like an old gold lame' purse.

Gamma.  Now this is pretty much a neon, only in a rubber-type finish.  My camera couldn't capture the true brightness of this polish.  Definitely more bright than simply orange, but not radioactive yellow, either.  A fun summery color.

I took a fan brush and swept Lament and Grab over Gamma.  The mixture really looks like fruit punch to me!  But not the kiddie Kool-Aid version, more like the one with an umbrella in it.  This look needs topcoat to make it all meld together.

Too soon for summer?  It's 5 o'clock somewhere...

Feelin' Mellow Yellow

I don't wear yellow very often, but I did find a few different swatches from over the past year, so I decided to lump them together into a giant yellow post-it.

Claire's.  Like all of Claire's minis, this has no name.  I wonder what it must be like to work at that factory.  "Can I have more of that color?  You know, the most recent blue?"  Anyway, it was not so good, as you can see.  Streaky!

Model City It's My Birthday.  I layered this over the Claire's polish, but its yellow base was opaque on its own.  I like this one, it's a fun, fresh take on the milky glitter polish with multi-color confetti glitter.

CrowsToes Asterope.  I love a good orange/pink/yellow multichrome, and this is excellent.  Great coverage, nice, easy shift.  The bottom pix shows more of the golden yellow.

LynBDesigns Quincy.  This was a polish I got a while ago, and it sat in my untrieds... for way too long.  I really like it!  The name is cool, too, from her line of polish that has boy's names.  This is a fun, unique polish!

Jessica Banana Peel.  I like Jessica polishes, and they did their best with yellow, but it's still a little streaky.  It's a different yellow, too - a little vintage, maybe?  Nice glossy finish, and I really liked it as undies for the next glitter.

Glitzology Princess Buttercup.  I think Glitzology polishes are pretty cool, but they are usually very thick.  This one applied very nicely, and I was surprised to find that the flowers came out without any digging.  I really liked the pale green glitters and how they looked against the base color and with the yellow glitters.  Probably my fave Glitzology polish to date!

Would you wear a yellow mani?  Do you like the yellow creme or a glittered look?

Think Pink!

As we get closer to Valentines' Day, I guess I'm starting to think pink!  I have a mix of older and newer looks to show you, all inspired by pink.

Orly Sterling Silver Rose.  I love Orly.. but this one?  not so much.  I guess this pink just wasn't my fave shade, and I was really hoping that the silver shimmer in the bottle would transfer to the nails.  Nope.

I did a sloppy gradient with OPI Suzi is a Chocoholic.  This is the only time I got to wear this color, as it slipped from my hands and broke open.. and splattered all over my carpet.  At least I still get to enjoy it most every day... on my floor.

This nameless glitter from Cosmetic Arts saved the look for me.  I like that it has a reddish jelly base, so you can't really see much of the pink anymore, but it's not so dark that it hides the fact that the tips are darker.  The glitter is chunky mylar shards, but it works for this look.  And, they all laid flat and played nice together.

Pure Ice Draped.  Many moons ago, I did a post about the Pure Ice velour (matte suede) finish polishes.  Somehow, Draped never made it into that post.  I'm a bad blogger, I know.  As a means of redemption, I include it here.  Am I forgiven?

Impala Sex Appeal.  I'm a fan of this Brazilian brand!  They've finally opened their own site that ships in the US, and Llarowe is also going to start carrying them, I believe.  Their bottles are so cute, and so far, I love the formulas.  Sex Appeal is a sexy orange/pink duochrome.  One of my fave duo combinations!

I topped it with Glitzology Guardian Angel.  This is a very pretty pink and iridescent flakie glitter with some pink hearts.  Be forewarned, though, that just about every polish I've tried from Glitzology needs to be thinned quite a bit.  This was so gloopy right out of the bottle!

Revlon Girly.  Another smash-hit glitter from Revlon this year, it's on everyone's wish list.  As well it should be, as it is awesome.  Pink jelly-ish, almost crelly (creme-jelly) base, with pink, blue, and purple glitters.  Great formula and application - really impressive for a drugstore brand, for sure.

Couldn't resist a little matte topcoat.  Love it.  A matte topcoat is so much fun to play with.  I'm currently using one from Hot Topic called Warpaint that I got for a dollar.  Essie's Matte About You is my other go-to matte topcoat, and I hear that Butter London's matte topcoat is pretty amazing.  I've even seen a 'recipe' online for making your own DIY matte topcoat with cornstarch.

Are you feeling pink?
