From Orange Holo To Orange Flakie

Hello, Fireflies!

You may remember last week's GOT challenge, where I resurrected an old holo from the Old Forgotten Holos Home - Enchanted Polish Dragon Spit.

Well, after I was done admiring it, I covered it up with another forgotten polish, but a flakie, this time - Nfu-Oh 44, a gorgeous orange base with golden orange flakies.

Look at that glow. And, isn't the bottle super cute?

I thought these Maybelline Colorshow Nail Tattoos I picked up from the Dollar Tree looked cute with this mani.  Hello, Lucky Cat!

Now that Fall is approaching, are you going looking for some fave fall color nail polishes?

Battle of the red-hot flakies

Hello, Fireflies!

I love flakies.  Practically obsessed.  I want to BUY ALL THE FLAKIES!

So, it's no wonder why I have dupes.. or at least close cousins.  I picked these 4 polishes that all have a purple base with red flakies: Nfu-Oh 51, Color Club The Uptown, Layla CE 52, and Kleancolor Chunky Holo Purple.

Even though they are all similar, none of them are exactly the same!

Nfu-Oh 51 is pretty much the original of this type of polish.  The Layla comes closest, but has a more purple base, less blue.  The Uptown is lighter still, and the Kleancolor has almost no color on the nail.

Even though they are all similar, none of them are exactly the same!

Even the flakies are all a little different.  The Uptown has almost too many flakies - with 2 coats of polish, the flakies start to look like a whole layer, rather than individual flashes.  The Nfu-Oh has the finest, smallest flakies.  The KleanColor's flakies are bordering on glitter. Not to mention it has that hideous Kleancolor aroma.

Even the flakies are all a little different

Nfu-Oh has discontinued their flakie line, but you can still find a few floating around on Ebay and the like.  If the smell doesn't bother you, the Kleancolor is probably the cheapest option, and you could layer it over whatever purple base you'd like.  I'm not sure of the availability of the Layla, since Ulta stopped carrying their line.  The Uptown is part of Color Club's Winter 2013 collection, so it should be around for a while, and then it will hopefully end up in TJMaxx!

Have y'all seen other versions of this polish?  If you don't need them all, which would you choose?

My version of one of the most beautiful stamped manis I've ever seen

One of the first stamped manis I ever saw, and still one of the most beautiful, is this stamped 'butterfly wing' from Makeup Alley.  I bought the Red Angel plates just for that stamp.  At one point I had owned some of the original Sally Hansen Chrome Nail Makeup, I had tossed them out some time back. (I thought polish went bad! I didn't know.  I still kick myself over that one..)

Luckily, I found some on Ebay, and bought them just to try and recreate that mani.

I didn't have the Magnetic polish used as a base, but I thought that the beautiful Nfu-Oh 51 was a good match - deep purple color, nice flakies.

On different fingers I used different combinations of the Chromes, but they were all some combination of Pink Crystal, Burmese Ruby, Royal Purple Chrome, Violet Sapphire, and Aquamarine Chrome.  I wish I had a stronger, deeper blue for this, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with my first try.

 Right hand:

I wore this mani to go to the recital of a friend who plays classical piano and sings beautifully.  She shines more brightly than any mani - even this one. :)

Nfu-oh Ooooooohhhhhhh

I finally succumbed to the Nfu-Oh holo hype.  I bought two, plus a few flakies, and the Aqua base.

I'd read about applying the holo polish as a 'sandwich' by applying a coat of the base, then the polish, then another coat of base, and another coat of polish.  I then used one coat of Sally Hansen topcoat.  It's not as thick as Seche Vite, and it didn't seem to dull the holo appreciably.  On the plus side, as I write this, I've been wearing this over a day, and no chipping yet.  Even long wear polish usually chips on me after 1-2 days.

This is #64, a lime-green holo.  These pix are inside, no flash, daytime.

I was so worried about the tricky application that I did it so quickly that I got polish all over my fingers.  Cleanup was intensive.  But it was worth it.  I think this polish lives up to the hype.  It's beautiful and unique, and even the bottle is pretty.

I bought these at FabulouStreet.com, which is the only US supplier I know of.  They had everything I wanted in stock, and shipping was very quick.  If you love a holo, you should treat yourself to one of the best..
