Get Back, Konjac! #konjacsponge

Product provided for review.  All opinions are my own.
Hello, Fireflies!

When it comes to washing my face, I have many choices - washcloths, spinning brushes, sonic brushes, facial wipes, and, one of my faves, the konjac sponge.  If you've been hiding under a beauty rock, konjac sponges are old-school asian tools that are the newest craze here in the USA.

Konjac is a root vegetable mostly grown in high plateaus in Asia.  It's dried and powdered, and the fibers are formed into sponges.  This konjac from My Konjac Sponge is mixed with bamboo charcoal, for extra detoxing capability for oily skin.

Konjac is naturally pH balanced with our skin, so it's a gentle cleanser all on its own - you don't need to add any soap for a natural, exfoliating clean that leaves the skin soft and smooth.  I prefer to use it with a cleanser most of the time because I need extra help with my oil-slicked face.
My Konjac Sponge
When  you first open the sponge, it's dry and hard.  It's not meant to be used this way! It needs to be soaked in water before each use, so that it is squishy and pliable.  Of the many sponges I've tried, this one is by far the biggest and squishiest.  Texture is a personal thing - I've tried some that were round, small, and firm, and others that were teardrop-shaped and softer.  I think those with sensitive skin would love this texture.  I like using it not only to soap up, but also to rinse off my face, for maximum exfoliation.

My Konjac Sponge

I love that My Konjac Sponge comes with a string to hang it up and keep it out of the way, as well as to help it dry.  Its thinner shape means that it dries pretty quickly.  These sponges last a while, but are meant to be replaced at least every 3 months - and that couldn't be simpler, because they are biodegradable and compostable.  So eco-friendly!  They're also vegan, and cruelty-free!

My nailart today is a French tip based on the abstract plant design on the packaging.  The base is a pretty white crelly with iridescent flakes called Soap..poisoning from Darling Diva Polish.  The tip is Maya Cosmetics Hematite, and the flowers were done with Hematite, an iridescent grey striper, and Julep Daria.  The whole time I was painting them, I kept thinking, "Feed Me, Seymour!"
For more information, or to purchase, you can find My Konjac Sponge on their website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Amazon, where this sponge currently retails for $10.

Have you Konjac-ed yet?
