Are You Superstitious?

Hello, Fireflies!

Booga-booga!  It's Friday the 13th!  Are you superstitious?  I am!  Well, at least I'm wearing Superstitious.  Revlon Superstitious - a gorgeous marine blue!

This has quickly gone up in the ranks as one of my fave blues.  Love the color, love the application. Love how it goes with everything - like this red, blue, and black glitter called Sugar Rim, from Milani.

I'm even wearing Superstitious on my toes, with a little glitter.  But I don't do pix of feet. *jibblies*  So, here's another pix of my mani.  Love it!

Have a great day... and don't step on any sidewalk cracks, walk under any ladders, or break any mirrors!

The Tie - Files

http://www.jennieshaw.ca/

Hello, Fireflies!

Welcome to another edition of Tie-spiration manis, The Nail Files edition.  My husband chose a few of his favorite ties and asked me to make nail art inspired by them.  I previously posted this blue, purple, and grey tie look, and today I'm going maroon and gold.

Here's the tie in question:

Here's the tie
It gets a little overly complicated before I'm all done, but it starts with an amazing holo, Enchanted Polish Vampires Suck.

I think a lot of Enchanted fans were bummed that this was more brown when they expected a vampy red.  I love this color, though.

I used a red nail art striper and then created a chevron French tip using A-England Fated Prince, a charcoal grey holo.

Next, I used a white striper and a gold glitter nail art striper to add details.

Finally, I finished it off with a square black stud, and some topcoat.  Whew! It's way busier than any nail art I think I've done before.

But it is definitely reminiscent of the tie, even if it's not an exact replica.  I never knew how complex this tie was when he wore it, I just liked it!

I think I let this nail art get away from me.  I like some of the elements, though, and think it evoked the spirit of the tie.  Have you ever tried to replicate a pattern and got lost in the details?

Spring Renewal - Pastel, Glitter, and Globs

Hello, Fireflies!

Do you ever wonder how a trend gets started?  I mean, who decided it was cool to paint one or two nails a different color than the rest? Did they just run out of polish and think, hey, I don't want to take this off, I'll just put on another color?

I like having accent nails, but it is a rather strange concept, if you think about it.  This is Aly's Dream Polish Salmon with accents of China Glaze Sand Dolla Make You Holla.

Sand Dolla is a textured polish.  I'm still loving the texture trend, but even if you don't, a nice thick topcoat like Seche Vite will make it smooth, and tends to make the glitters pop, too.  Pretty sparkleeez.

Speaking of weird trends, let's stick random things on our nails.  Now, you may have noticed that I do tend to stick a lot of random things on my nails.  This is because I am a follower.  I don't actually look at the world and wonder, 'will it stick to my nails?'

So, here's some microbeads from Finger Paints that I stuck on my nail.  Kinda looks like candy.. Easter jellybeans, maybe?  Hmm.  I wonder if I can get jellybeans to stick to my nails...

The Nail Files - Pinky Cherry Blossoms

http://www.jennieshaw.ca/

Hello, Fireflies!

What, a new nail linkup? I saw this cute pix on my friend Amber's blog, Daydreaming Beauty, and I threatened convinced  asked her to let me join.  I was all like, nails? Where?

Have you ever been to Washington, D.C. during the time the cherry blossoms are blooming?  It's utterly spectacular, and it smells amazing.  Inspired by that and many incarnations of cherry blossom nail art (including this one by the fabulous Kimiko7878 on Instagram) I came up with this.

I started with Cult Nails Angel Whispers, a textured pale, pale pink, and Darling Diva Polish Rose Opal, a pink jelly with flakies.

I used a black striper for the branches and leaves.

I decided to do more abstract blossoms, with dots of polish.  I used Sheswai Lacquers in Babe and What, and also did some highlighting with Angel Whispers.

It almost looks like snow, instead of flowers!

One of the benefits of doing dots instead of something more precise - you can do both hands, and they look like you totally meant to do dots!

I don't always do nail art on both hands, but if I do, I want everyone to see it! Look, Ma! Both hands!

Check out The Nail Files to see who all is linked up this week!
