Aha! Ahava!

Hello, Fireflies!

Have you heard of Ahava?  A year ago, I had a friend in Israel send me a swap package that included some Ahava products, and I fell in love.  I found out that you can also get a lot of their products here in the USA, which made me so happy!

My husband suffers from eczema, and I am always on the lookout for products that might help him.  The minerals in Dead Sea mud are supposed to be very good for combating dryness and eczema.  I picked up this Intensive Nourishing Body Cream with Dermud, their trademarked Dead Sea ingredient.

It's not designed specifically for eczema, but as you can see, they recommend it for the relief of many of its symptoms, like cracking, redness, and roughness.

This is one of the thickest creams I've ever used.  You can see in this pix that the cream holds its shape after being squeezed from the tube! That's thick!

It's rich and emollient, and it feels really good.  Even after spreading it out a bit, you can see how rich it is.  Yeah, it takes a minute to completely sink in, but it's not greasy. It doesn't have any perfume, either.  Just rich, muddy goodness.

It didn't cure hubby's eczema, but when he used it regularly, it did help with all but the worst outbreaks that needed prescription medicine.  It works great for my winter-dry skin, especially on my legs and ankles, which can get so dry that they itch and flake.

Do you have a special winter cream (or a really good eczema cream)?

    1. They also have a night-time skin serum that I really love. When I saw it on sale, I bought three bottles! I never want to be without it again.

  3. I've never heard of them before up until now. Ezcena is one of the hardest things to get rid off I suffer from it once and year and I struggle with it so badly.

    1. He's never been able to get rid of it, just put it in a sort of remission from time to time. Stress and heat make it flare up, too. It's so frustrating.

  4. I've tried Ahava, but it gave me a rash! My skin isn't even sensitive :-(

    1. I'm sorry to hear that! Feels like such a betrayal to have an expensive treatment give you a rash when it's supposed to relieve them!

  5. I have atopic eczema on my hands and have to use strong steroid creams to battle it. It's especially bad in the winter, I get cracks in the creases of the fingerprints and my skin becomes like velcro and it hurts... By accident I bought First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream over a year ago and now I hardly use steroid creams at all. I've also been able to completely stop my UV-therapy (tanning 3 times a week). I'm so happy I found it, too bad I have to buy it from the UK since it's not sold in Sweden, but it is available in the US since it's an American product. Try it, it's amazing!

    1. I actually got a jar of that in the Allure beauty box I bought. I have used it on hubby a few times, but not regularly. I really like it - it smells kinda like Noxema, and it's very thick and creamy. I'm so glad that worked for you!

  6. Yes, yes and YES! Dermud line is amazing, I cannot recommend it enough. They carry the best hand cream I've ever tried, and the only thing stopping me from buying it all the time is the price, but these products are really worth it.

    1. When Sears stopped carrying beauty products, they put them all on sale, and I stocked UP. This cream was an afterthought, but it's one of my faves I picked up. I'm glad it works for you, too!

    1. The 'mud' makes it a little grey in color, but I think it just adds to the experience. It's very nice.

    1. I'll have to check it out on Gilt next time around. Ahava can get a little spendy. I just saw them carrying some of the line at Target, so maybe we can score some on clearance now and again!

  13. I love AHAVA! For Eczema my daughter has to use a prescription. It's just too severe, especially in the winter, without it. We've had lucky in between outbreaks with Eucerin Eczema and we also use that in the Summer =)

    1. Hubby has a prescription, too, but he doesn't like to use it unless the rash is really bad. I think he finally gets it that using a lotion once a week is just not going to make the rash go away, no matter how awesome the cream is. Eczema damages the skin so much! I've tried Eucerin before, but I didn't know they made a specific eczema product. I'll have to look for that. Thanks!

  14. My BIL has eczema and this is the only brand that helps him out. Ahava is a wonderful brand in general but I know that this is one of their stars.

    1. I wish him luck! It seems that there is no sure-fire cure that works for everyone. I've also been using the Borage oil lotion from Shikai (from Walgreens.com) and neem oil and raw shea butter at different times on hubby, and those seem to give some relief. The neem oil is rather stinky though.

    1. Oh, that would be awful for me because I wear glasses. Do you find that the heat or your hair irritates it? I wear a sleep bonnet at night for my curly hair, but I wonder if it would help you to keep your hair off your ears at night. I wish you the best finding relief!
