Holoooo, Orange!

Who loves orange?  This girl.  I hope you do, too, because I have a lot of juicy orange goodness for you today!

Amy's Nail Boutique Orange A-Peel.  This is a burnt-orange or blood orange type of color, not your typical bright orange.  It's a jelly, too, so squishy.  This is 3 coats, I believe, and it covered pretty well in Real Life, though there's a little VNL in the pix.  This is absolutely gorgeous.

I started to do a comparison post, and I realized that I had swatched this a while ago, but never posted it.  This is Literary Lacquers More Like Fire Than Light, a bright, squishy, fiery jelly orange holo.  Ka-pow!

Bonus glitter pix!  After I swatched Literary Lacquers More Like Fire Than Light, I put Tough As Nails Lacquer Orange Whip over it. Orange is such a great jelly color, and the glitters just swim around.

So, here's the comparison shot you've been waiting for!  Drumroll, please:

Orange holo comparison shot

The Chirality was the closest in color, but it's a crelly and doesn't have the same texture at all.  The Chirality was also the only one-coater in the bunch.  Born Pretty holo is close, but took 2 coats to get that nice, dark burnt orange color.  Greatest Treasures looks similar in the bottle to the others, but on the nail is much more pink.

So, no dupes, but Chirality is close.  From a distance, they all look pretty similar, though, which is probably why non-polish people think we're a little cuckoo.  Let 'em.  I know that I need 10 different variations of orange holo.  And, don't even get me started on purple or blue holos.

From a distance, not as much difference

Do you have a fave orange holo?  If you haven't seen it already, I did some stamping on Enkelini Laney Lou a while back, too.  Is there one you like I didn't compare here?

Shiny, happy, purple

One pretty purple yesterday, and today, I have a trifecta of pretty purples for you. Oh, boy!

Tough As Nails Purple Twilight.  If you look closely, you'll see individual purple and pink microglitters, but they just blend together into this pinky-purple shiny goodness.  Easy formula, really pretty.

It doesn't even really look like a 'glitter' polish - almost like a glass fleck.

Jindie Nails Purple Rainbow.  This is a scattered holographic polish with a pink shimmer.  Another lovely polish.

The pink shimmer is most obvious where the light hits, up at the top of the nail in this pix.

But, I may have saved the best for last.  A polish I've had on my wishlist for awhile, bought 'dupes' of, but couldn't get the original off my mind.  And that's what this polish is - an Original.

OPI DS Original.  One of the landmark polishes of the OPI DS holographic collection.  What can I say that hasn't already been said?

After I wore it for a couple of days (unheard of these days, where I change my polish daily, if not more often) I tried stamping over it to preserve the polish just...one...more...day...

Yeah, I know.  Ruined.  I can't leave you with that image.

Ahhh, better.  Deep breaths.  What's your favorite purple polish?

Come and See.. more Tough As Nails!

If you didn't get enough Tough as Nails Lacquer yesterday, I have her newest collection to show you today!  It's based off the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Conquest:  The White Horse.  Actually a pale, shimmery grey, this is the polish that made me want this collex.  I knew I wanted it the second I saw it.  I love that pale, almost watery looking grey, and when it dries, it actually looks like one of the new textured polishes (think Zoya PixieDust).  Of course, a little topcoat and it's all glossy.

War: The Red Horse.  For some reason, I'm never that enthused about red polishes (except a good red holo)  so I wanted to see swatches of this one before I bought the collex.  It's actually a pretty simple and pretty polish.  The base is a raspberry jelly, and the glitters bring out flashes of true red.

Death: The Pale Horse.  When I see this one, I am reminded of the movie, "Tombstone" when the bad guy is talking about Doc Holliday and likens him to Death, and Hell coming with him.  oooh, *shiver*

I suspected that this polish would be difficult to reach opacity on it's own, so I used three layers by itself on my ring finger, and layered the others over Zoya Bevin.  If you don't mind a little VNL, the corpse-pale green of Death by itself is pretty, and allows for more of the flakies to do their thing.  Bevin matches it pretty nicely, though, takes care of the VNL, and is a good background for the glitters.

Famine: The Black Horse.  This one was so hard to get a good photograph, but it is one of my faves from this collex.  The black jelly really shows off the copper glitters, and the wine glitters flash with movement. Loving the circle glitters too!

Not to detract from my own wonderfully witty musings and pix, but another review of these polishes that I really liked, and did more justice to the background of the polishes, is from Accio Lacquer.  Her swatches are amazing, too!

Any favorites here?  This collex is so different from The Dregs, but I love them both.  Really well done collections!

The Dregs? I don't think so!

These polishes from Tough As Nails may be named for the dregs of society, but they are the creme de la creme of polishes!  I loved them all.

The Redundant Woman.  A lavender creme with a pink shimmer that was evident on the nail, but hard to capture with the camera.

My bottle shot didn't come out... but I used OPI Road House Blues and Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow (mixed with some white) for the flowers.  I got the idea from Set in Lacquer's nail art

East End Girl.  Pale blue with aqua shimmer.  This is two coats; I would have used a third if I was wearing it alone, but I knew I wanted to try it with some glitter.

I couldn't decide which glitter, so I tested two.  This is Lush Lacquer Seas The Moment - a mix of bright green, white, and blue.  Very eye-catching.

I was also drawn to this subtle glitter from F4 Polish, Abominable.  The small white glitters mute the blue background, and make the turquoise pop.

Thumb is East End Girl alone, index and middle with Abominable, and ring and pinkie with Seas The Moment.  Which do you like more?  I can't decide...

Magdalene's Laundry Service.  A lovely sheer pink with pink, rose, and gold glitters.  Very pretty and demure.

I wanted to give it a harder edge, so I paired with Mentality Gregarious - a microglitter mix of black and silver.

Builder's Tea.  Creamy light brown with flecks of bronze and black.  One of my fave combinations of colors.

This one just seemed to want a retro floral pattern, so I went with it.  I used Revlon Electric Pink and Plum Baby for the flowers.

I loved how these polishes evoked a feeling of hard and soft for me.  Edgy, but beautiful.  All were easy to apply, opaque in 2-3 coats, no dragging of glitter.  And I love her new square bottles.

Indie Blue and Grey

I have been, as you may know, bitten badly by the Indie bug.  I love them.  I have enough glitter to wear from head-to-toe, and yet, there are combinations out there I still want to have.

This Flormar 99 is a beautiful electric blue, but I wish I hadn't sent all the way to Bulgaria for it - there are plenty here in the US that are as nice.  It does have a nice shine, even without topcoat, though.

Does everyone have enough 'mermaid' or 'ocean' type glitters by now?  I have bought my share, and I think the key is to find the right combination for you.  Some have more teal, some more royal blue, some silver.  Elixir Lacquer Kind of Connery is a beautiful combination of blue, silver, and aqua glitters in a blue tinted base.  The silver glitter also flashes black, which gives it a dark depth that I really like.

From deep blue seas to grey, rainy skies.  I started with a layer of Wet 'n Wild Rain Check, a translucent blue grey shimmer.

I may not have drunk the Kool-aid of the white base with glitter group, but I am loving the grey bases with glitter. Tough As Nails Lacquer It's All Over Now is a light grey base with silver, lavender, purple, and blue glitter.

I made a jelly sandwich with another very thin layer of Rain Check - you can just barely see the blue shimmer on my middle finger.

Are you more partial to deep ocean glitter or rainy skies glitter?
