Sunday Stamping - Happy Chinese New Year!
Hello, Fireflies!
Friday was the celebration of the Chinese New Year, and that's the challenge for today. I admit, there are many, many times when I am ignorant of other cultures. So, I got myself on the interwebs and did a little research on the Chinese New Year.
Ok, you got me. I went to Wikipedia. I'm not writing a research paper, here.
I learned that red is a very important color for this celebration! It made sense to start this mani with a sparkling red - Too Cute-icle Lifeguard. Lovely bright red jelly with a subtle scattered holo.
What's more celebratory than gold confetti? REAL18k gold confetti, that's what! Sephora by OPI It's Real top coat, for the win!
This is the year of the horse, so I had to use this horse stamp from Mash - 42, along with Maybelline Bold Gold. I have trouble with little images - the horse on the plate is running and free. Mine looks shackled, lame, and sad. Poor old horse.
Dragons are important to the celebration, too. There is always a dragon dance. Who wouldn't want to pretend to be a dragon for a little while? This is also Maybelline Bold Gold and plate DRK - C.
I also read that people wrote letters on red paper during the New Year, so I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism and the same DRK - C plate to make, what I assume is, Chinese letters. It could be drivel, it could say, "Eat At Joe's." I really don't know. Maybe it says, "Hi, Mom!"
Here's the whole thing all together. Lots of red and gold!
Bottle shot: Too Cute-icle Lifeguard, SOPI It's Real 18k topcoat, Finger Paints Black Expressionism, and Maybelline Bold Gold.
Did you celebrate the Chinese New Year?

Gorgeous manicure you created for Chinese New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa! Did you celebrate?
DeleteWhat a pretty many, the colors are so right, and that Sephora by OPI It's Real gives someting very special to the finished result!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maria! A little touch of gold makes everything more special, right?
DeleteThis is awesome! I'm SO bad at stamping LMAO it's embarrassing
ReplyDeleteThat was my 2nd attempt at the horse before I just accepted its sadness. I'm pretty bad, too - I want to try decals, but I'm afraid to! lol!
DeleteLovely manicure! I don't celebrate but I have a dear friend who does. :D
ReplyDeleteMy husband has a colleague who does. Maybe I should ask him what the stamp says, if anything! lol.
DeleteOMG love!
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl! Did you post pix of your glittery post-IBX mani? So beautiful! If you did, please leave the link here! It was so pretty!
DeleteWhat a great combo! I love the gold flaky on the red.
ReplyDeleteIs there any better combo than red, black, and gold? Maybe silver...
DeleteOMG! I Love this! I want that plate! Love it all!
ReplyDeleteI think I got it from Ninja Polish, but I can't remember. The dragon stamps drew me in, frankly. Glad to finally get a chance to use one!!
DeleteWow! Okay I am so in love with this entire mani! The gold and red look amazing together!
ReplyDeleteAw, that's so nice! Thanks! I love red, black, and gold together. Classic.
DeleteI really want to expand more with nail stamping ;)
ReplyDeleteI would recommend starting with a group like Adventures in Stamping (on Facebook) - they have a lot of resources and advice. My fave stampers are the one from Konad and a squishy stamper I bought from Ninja Polish. At a very minimum, you should get a good black, white, and gold/silver and you can start stamping! I like Finger Paints Black Expressionism and Paper Mache, or Cult Nails Tempest and Nevermore, also Milani White on the Spot is very good. Maybelline Bold Gold and Essie No Place Like Chrome are staples for me.
Deletegreat nails, happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThank you, you too! May we all be blessed with fewer broken nails and skin breakouts this year! lol
