#WeekOfLoveChallenge - Wearing My Heart On My (Striped) Sleeve

Hello, Fireflies!

Is there a Valentines' Eve?  Well, it's not official, but for many, this day is full of anticipation of what tomorrow will bring! So, in honor of the occasion, I have one of my favorite manis of the challenge for today's theme - hearts.

I started with OPI Sleigh Ride For Two.  So romantic! This wine-colored polish has a tiny bit of shimmer in it, but it doesn't catch the light, and you can't see it on the nail.  Like an overpriced sleigh ride through slushy streets, this polish is nice in theory, but a bit of a disappointment in reality.

I was inspired by the mani in this Pinterest Pin (argh, another one with no watermark, and no link!) to break out the striping tape and create some different striping patterns using Nikka K NY112, a lovely mushroom taupe.

When I want my silver glitter to be opaque, but not thick, I layer it over a silver polish.  I used a Sally Hansen nail pen in silver to draw hearts on my thumb and ring finger, and then used silver glitter over it.

Oooh, shiny!

Reminds me of my fave rugby shirt I used to wear in high school.  Not that I played rugby.  They were fashionable for 5 minutes in the 80's.

On my other hand, I decided to try and create a complimentary look without messing with striping tape or nail art.  I love how it turned out!

When you wear nail art, do you do it on both hands?  I usually do it on one hand if it's just for fun or the blog.  If I'm going out, I try to do it on both hands.  This is the first time I can remember trying to do a complimentary look for the other hand.

  2. Love your colour choices. So elegant! Too bad you can't see the shimmer on the dark colour but it's still pretty.

I like the "alternative" V-day colors you chose for this pretty mani!

  4. I would have never thought to pair that burgundy with a taupe brown. I love it... I am gonna pair those shades together... it will help to tone down the dark colors which I don't use often on my nails because it normally makes my fingers look much shorter... but this will really help to tone it down. :) thank you - love this design & look.

  6. You are so artistic! I'd never be able to come up with this color combination, but you made it work masterfully. Is it weird that I think this manicure looks like yummy chocolate truffles? :)

Let's not talk about rugby shirts. That is a fashion moment that should never be revisited. LOL

    1. I don't know why, but I love the heart over the stripes! I've seen that in quite a few manis, and I just love it.

  9. I definitely cannot do stripes on my nails. I would end up with horizontal lines, vertical lines, and everything in-between trying to make the same line on every nail, lol. But it looks super cute on you!

    1. I used striping tape for these... but I hear ya. Even with tape, I tend to get lines that lean.. I need a nail level!

    1. Thanks, Miranda! I don't usually like to wear two different manis, but in this case they complimented each other enough I felt more confident.

    1. Born Pretty store and other Asian stores (ebay) usually have the best prices, but the longest wait times. It's so fun to use!

    1. I loved mine. Out of all of the outrageous fads of the 80's, I wouldn't have guessed this one would become maligned. I also wore layers of socks to match my shirts, and popped my collars... lol
