Stained glass window

Shelly's Sassy Nails had a colorblock contest on Facebook that I entered with this 'stained glass' design, and one of her readers asked if I would be willing to do a tutorial!  How could I not?  It took the sting out of losing! lol!

I started with 5 of the new Wet 'n Wild Chromes:  Hog-Quartz School (purple), Stay Outta My Bismuth (teal), I Got a New Com-pewter (lime green), Precious Petals (pink), and Penny For Your Thoughts (peachy-copper)

I think this look works well with opaque colors because there is some layering, and I didn't want to wait forever between colors, or have a mani that was too thick.  I started with a skittle mani using the 5 colors.

Then, I basically moved up one color in the sequence and painted a diagonal line from the middle of my nail to the tip.  I did this freehand, but if you're unsure, you can use tape.  Because I'm covering some of the color with more color and black lines, I wasn't worried about having a perfect line here.

Messy, messy, messy!  I will tell you, these Chrome polishes were as bad as any glitter to clean up off my skin.

To do the other line, I basically went the other way in the sequence.   Hmm.  Apparently, I put the blue and purple back in line incorrectly.  I think I got it right on my nails, though.

So, you end up with the original skittle in the middle, the first coat of color is the smaller side piece, and the long diagonal is the last color.

To emphasize the color differences, I decided to outline with a black nail art striper.

Then I cleaned up and topped with Seche Vite.

I still have some trouble getting the right hand as neat as the left, but it's okay.  I did keep the same skittle pattern on the right hand, but I alternated which color was bigger on the right hand.  So, for example, on the left thumb, the main skittle is still copper, but on the right hand the pink is over the purple.  On the left hand, the purple is over the pink.  I'm so very clever, aren't I? lol

My hubby wanted y'all to know that this is one of his top 5 fave manis that I've done.  So I guess this one's a man-pleaser! lol!  I hope you will try this one, it's easy and a lot of fun, and has a lot of bang for the buck.
